A better version of the first one, still staying true to its old skool RPG origins.. I don\u00b4t know if I can recommend this game. I like games like this in general. Running around, solving quests, building up a character and so on. But Eschalon tests my frustration tolerance to the edge. As a magick user you run away from enemies all the time and there is only one spell that is really effective. That becomes boring very quickly. You have to camp all the time to recover mana points, you have to eat (and buy food) all the time, you have to run around a lot because the locations given by quests are vague. Then you can get easily diseased (which makes your character unplayable till recovered and costs a lot to cure). Then you have strange things like wolves who suffer penalties for fighting in the dark, rain that reduces the damage of magic fire. I wonder if the people who created this game really playtested it with random people.. Eschalon: Book II is a game you have to have history to appreciate. If you grew up on classic crpgs, then you may know the score. You just have to find that perfect afternoon to play it. Preferably one where you are thinking back to the first computer rpg games you fell in love with. It is a tough game, but it is rewarding and fun. You can watch a few "Let's Plays" and get an idea, but until you pick it up you will not understand what makes it great. My simple yes or no scale: Yes, buy it. Many of us pine for those halcyon days of PCRPGS. This is your time machine back.. Loved the setting, mechanics and exploration. Finished it. Enjoyed it!. Awesome game!
